Remember to have fun!

This week in 420 we presented learning initiative prototypes, and I was reminded of a small, but key, part of learning: the importance of having fun!

Our team theme is creating a unified process “train track”, so we wore conductor hats & whistles and bandanas. It instantly brought smiles to ours and the class’s faces, and the feedback afterwards highlighted the creativity of our ideas and presentation. It reminded me that we sometimes take things too seriously and having a little fun can go a long way. This applies in coaching situations too, and I want to remember to harness this.

  1. I wish I had been there! Great idea! There is so much truth what an important role humor plays in connecting with people. It can loosen people up and smiling relaxes the entire body and makes people happy and – just like that – you have a captured and friendly atmosphere! It always works!

  2. This is such a great reflection, Adam! It can be challenging to have fun when you feel like you have to be perfect or not fail in work, school, and life. However, I’ve found that working and learning to just learn and enjoy the process has brought along better results than when striving for “perfection.” It sounds like you had a great experience, and I’m sure you’ll be able to remember that moment to translate into coaching in the future!
